These datasets can be downloaded or obtained from the Remote Sensing Centre. Many more will be added in the near future.

1) Fly the Kokoda Track in this helicopter animation

Follow the Kokoda Track from the air in this short movie (7mb) that takes you from Port Moresby over the mountains to Kokoda.

2) 1:50,000 Coastline of PNG

Prior to the creation of this dataset, the best digital coastline available for PNG was at a 1:250,000 scale. This had therefore some substantial limitations for generating high quality local maps. This 1:50,000 dataset was derived from orthorectified Landsat imagery with an average RMS error of 30m. We has used this dataset to create refined Provincial, District and LLG maps that can be used within the Provincial Geobooks downloadable on this site.

3) 20m DEM of Port Moresby - contact for details

The Port Moresby DEM was created from digitised 1:25,000 topographical maps with the drainage enforcment algorithm in ANUDEM. It is excellent for local relief and slope mapping as well as the creation of 3D views of this great town.

4) 90m DEM of PNG

This 3D shot of Mt Wilhelm was created through a composition of the 90m DEM and a Landsat Scene.

The PNG 90m DEM is a composite of the NASA SRTM data and a DEM created by UPNG using countour lines, points and drainage enforcement. When the SRTM data has a far better delineation of topography, it also has many gaps in the data due to radar shadows. The composite data set uses the UPNG DEM to fill these gaps.
